I would love to see an update with more variability… but you can also find your variability as we do: using other iPad math apps as well. After a while, you can answer 51 minus 28 in a flash not because you know the answer or can calculate with ease but because that problem continues to reoccur. The downside of the game being unsophisticated is that the combinations are limited. Seeing your child’s name and your flag… it feels like your kid winning an Olympic gold medal yet you don’t have to make all of those 5:00 a.m. You get your name, score and country’s flag on the list. The ultimate reward for success is a spot in the Hall of Fame – the top 500 scores. The premise is a little violent for my tastes but the nuance of all of this gets lost pretty quickly in the excitement of the game. The bombs fall faster as the game goes on requiring quicker responses. The premise of the game is that math problems are falling bombs and you need to tap on the correct answer before the bomb explodes on the city. But Math City really works and, to boot, it costs only 99 cents, not exactly a bank breaker compared to many other iPad math educational games I have seen (and bought). It has a simple and, frankly, unimpressive design.
There are many iPad applications that are high definition, high tech and just feel (to me) like 2020. I am a huge fan of the iPad app Math City. Parents need to know that MathBoard is a practice tool that infuses the sometimes tedious and impersonal process of practicing basic mathematical operations with fun by adding lots of customizable options, individual quiz generation, and the ability to save results for each student using this app. I just wish they would put out a more advanced version of the game and put on more questions (or just update the that is already out). This app is made by Nth Fusion LLC which has developed other educational iPad apps that we own that I will be writing about in the future.
Beginning in kindergarten, with simple addition and subtraction problems, through elementary school where learning multiplication and division can be a real challenge. If you get just 30 minutes out of it, I still think it is a worthwhile investment. MathBoard MathBoard is a highly configurable math app appropriate for all school aged children. MathBoard is a keyboard with all of the math symbols you need. So it is a weapon worth having for 99 cents. Because there is nothing else like this out there. Would I recommend this incredibly flawed game? Absolutely. So you can only really only whip this game out for a few days. Ultimately, your kids remember the answers and stop doing the analogies. This app has a very limited number of questions, so few that they often repeat frequently even in a 20 question test. My dream is that one day there are hundreds of iPad analogy apps out there and I’m buying the very best ones available. That is not, however, where we are now. It is extremely low tech but the questions are just great and I think they really help cultivate young minds. It is a quiz that lets kids practice both verbal and geometrical analogies. Analogies for Kids is an educational iPad app that has a premise I love.
